The Art of Seduction

I love to mentor young professionals… it’s gratifying to see people get promoted, move to a better job, and in general, just become more successful and happier.

In one of my mentoring meetings last week, someone asked me “how can I become better at convincing people to do what I want, and thanking me for it?”.

I recommended “The Art of Seduction” to her. She loved it. It talks about  an indirect and subtle form of power, which you can develop and use it to advance your career. Enjoy!

Can you change your luck?

In this article, you can learn about things that you can do to ‘become’ more lucky. It’s a great read. Dr. Wiseman (author of Luck Factor) is an expert on this topic. The article discusses Dr. Wiseman’s research of over 1,000 people, analyzing truly ‘unlucky’ people and how a shift in their mindset made them luckier. I love the discussion about trusting your gut. I think this is especially important for women. Here is my favorite quote: ” What intuition seems to be most of the time is when you’ve got expertise in the area, that somehow the body and the brain have detected a pattern that you haven’t consciously seen… When we were talking to our lucky people they would often say, “If I get a gut feeling about something I stop and consider it.” Even when unlucky people got those feelings, they didn’t follow them because they didn’t know where they came from. They were anxious about the world.

The difficulties of being a woman in the workplace during a pandemic

According to a study from McKinsey and Sheryl Sandberg’s LeanIn.org, a quarter of working women are considering scaling back their career ambitions or leaving the workforce entirely because of the stresses related to the pandemic.

This is a big deal! The Women in the Workplace report found that working mothers are 3x more likely to be handling the brunt of housework than working fathers, with the burden falling particularly on Black women. Female executives are also more likely than their male peers to feel burned out from juggling work and family obligations.

If you are a manager, and you have women in your team, make sure to check in, ask how they are feeling and how they dealing with housework.
